About Zagreb

Zagreb is the capital of the Republic of Croatia and the largest city in Croatia by population. As the capital of Croatia, the City of Zagreb is a distinct territorial, administrative, and self-governing unit. The broader metropolitan area of the city has a population of over one million. Historically, Zagreb grew from two settlements on neighbouring hills, Gradec and Kaptol, which form the core of the modern city, its historical centre (Upper Town and part of Lower Town). It is situated on the southwestern edge of the Pannonian Plain at an average altitude of 122 meters, at the foot of the southern slopes of Medvednica Mountain, on both the left and right banks of the Sava River. The location of Zagreb, at the convergence of the Alpine, Dinaric, Adriatic, and Pannonian regions, has allowed it to become a bridge between Central European and Adriatic regions.

It is the only capital city in the world that begins with the letter Z. Along with Vienna, it is the only European capital with its own wine road (opened in 2009). Additionally, it is the only European capital with a ski resort.

During your stay in Zagreb, you can visit various landmarks, cultural events, and other activities. For recommendations on these, I am including a link to the Zagreb Tourist Board, where you can find activities to suit your wishes and preferences!
